One of the comments to my last post included the word, expectation. Good spiritual word, expectation! I always appreciate how comments complete and add to the conversations!
How many times I have prayed and lifted concerns to God with the expectation that He will do what I want to resolve the situation. Rather than being mindful that God would create a process of working together with His plan, my expectation would be that it would just get fixed. Like a spiritual repair shop!
I was talking with God this morning about my expectations of worship and attending church. The other word God revealed for me is, “participation”.
We have a choice when we are in worship. We can attend or we can participate. If we just attend worship, we are mere observers and often times (at least for me), distracted. If we participate in worship, we are part of God’s spiritual process.
I’m convinced that God’s Holy Spirit has a personalized message for each of us. My prayer for us, when we attend church this weekend is to be more than just being there. More than being in attendance. Ask God to open our hearts and minds to His direction and will for our lives. Ask God to guide us to be part of the His spiritual process rather than observers!
“We need prayer to understand God’s love for us. If we really mean to pray and want to pray we must be ready to do it now. These are only the first steps towards prayer but if we never make the first step with determination, we will not reach the last one: the presence of God.”
