Do Not Be Afraid

In our previous post, we reviewed a scripture about Mary. As a follow-up, I would like for us to think about the shepherds and consider their lives.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.”

– Luke 2: 8

What I like about this verse, is we see these are common people like you and me. They have a job and they are working. To them, that night must have started out like hundreds of other’s.

An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.”

– Luke 2:9

What would our reaction be if this were to happen to us today? I have to believe our reaction would be much the same. I love the description of when the angels appeared, “the glory of the Lord shone around them.” Imagine being in the presence of “the glory of the Lord!”

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.”

– Luke 2:10

Ah, “Do not be afraid.” An angel, a messenger from God delivering such four significant words. Four words that were important then and important now.

We are all going to face various situations in our lives where we may be afraid. Let us remember this verse and remind ourselves that God’s Holy Spirit is with us. God is with us.

My prayer for us is to communally pray for those in the world who are afraid today. There is so much violence and tragedy. Within the midst of this, there would be fear. Especially for the children caught up in such horrendous circumstances. Let us pray for them. Let us pray for everyone who is afraid and ask God to send protective angels to protect and calm them.

Thank you for being here as we discover and share God’s grace. Please feel free to share this post so our communal prayer will be even larger! Remember, God hears every whisper of every prayer!

Oh my goodness..I just love your post. I love the story of Jesus birth! And yes…i would have been sore afraid too! But, you know what…I think it’s ok to have some fear. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Then I remember a scripture in Timothy .. i believe …for God has not given us the spirit of fear but love, power, and a sound mind. I claim that one for I was in a relationship for over 25 years that was nothing but fear. Every day. Afraid. And through it all I knew God. I loved God. And I knew God is love and that love CAN fix anything. I pray for all those who are living in a unhealthy relationship full of fear and those in countries who are not free to worship God as we are..and are afraid. We are so blessed here. Yes, I will share your posts!

    • Thank you for being here with us as we continue to share and encourage one another to be a gentle witness and discover and share God’s grace! I agree with you, “we are so blessed here.” Thank you!

In the face of all forms of uncertainty we must be conscious of the fact that God is with us and He says always fear not. The enemy does magnify things and create unnecessary tension to keep us in perpetual fear and lethargy. We must in unison stand against all the wiles – fear not!!!!. Thanks for this reminder. Prayer works always.
